Kingdom of An Tir - Arts & Sciences

Former Kingdom A&S Champions

Maitre Guerin de Bourgogne

Guerin de BourgongneThe Arts and Sciences Championship gave me a unique opportunity to focus tightly on a set of crafts that I had been wanting to work on for a while. It forced me to bring together many random bits of knowledge and skill into a coherent whole, while providing me with a firm deadline.

I credit the championship with the move of my activities toward a late 14th century focus, and bringing me closer to true re-enactment. As Champion of Arts and Sciences, I found even more incentive to do it right. Being in the spotlight as an exemplar of the arts and sciences pushed me to upgrade my kit, to pay more attention to the education aspects of arts and sciences, and to pay more attention to what others were doing.

The position doesn't come with a firm job description, apart from standing in court for five kingdom events, but that also leaves a lot of latitude in what activities to promote and push for.

I think the most lasting of these has been my involvement in the Arts and Sciences competition thereafter, both as a judge for the finals, and in the planning stages.
