I was asked to enter the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Competition by Maestro Eduardo, as there were no members of the Order of the Laurel entering the competition. I had won the precursor to the competition, the Arts and Sciences Decathlon. I thought that it would be fun, and would be a great incentive to starting and finishing a number of projects that I had been wanting to do for quite a while (I find deadlines very helpful). I had no intentions of being a competitive entrant. This intention lasted until the day of competition. I enjoy the stress of competition a great deal (I deal with stress by sharing it), and I especially enjoyed the second day judging.
Like Guerin, I found that being Champion forced me to concentrate on period re-enactment. I have never enjoyed SCA courts, and being Champion has not changed my opinions.I have enjoyed teaching, and being Champion has reinforced this pleasure. I took great pleasure in representing the Kingdom at events like Pennsic and Estrella , where I judged A&S competitions and encouraged period crafts at Laurel's Prize Tourneys.
