NSCA Waivers in BC: What's Needed and When
Contributed by HL Lenora di Calizzan and Baroness Amanda Kendal

The SCA waiver information is the same on both sides of the border; however, NSCA waivers are only applicable in British Columbia at NSCA-sanctioned events.

The Northern Society for Creative Anachronism (NSCA) was incorporated in July 1976 under the Society Act in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, to provide a venue for reporting finances to the British Columbia Government in order to maintain non-profit status. After a few years, the NSCA made arrangements with Sport BC to provide third party liability insurance and out-of country travel insurance.

For more information on the history and pupose of the NSCA in British Columbia, visit the NSCA website.

NSCA Waivers
NSCA Waivers, as well as NSCA membership application forms, are available at http://www.nsca.bc.ca/waivers/

The NSCA Adult Event Waiver
This waiver is needed at all NSCA-sanctioned events in BC for all adults (19 years of age and older) that are:
(a) not NSCA members with a card that has the word WAIVER stamped on the card, AND
(b) participating in a "risk" activity, such as heavy combat, rapier combat, archery, waterbearing, marshalling, heralding, etc. (Essentially if you are going to be on the field in these or a similar capacity, you need to fill out an NSCA Adult Event Waiver.)

If you are not participating in a risk activity you do not need to fill out an NSCA Adult Event Waiver. Because of this, many branches do not supply NSCA Adult Event Waivers at Gate - they are kept with those in charge of the various "risk" activities. It's one less thing for gate-keepers and their volunteers to worry about.

If you are a resident of British Columbia, would like to become an NSCA member and obtain a card with the word WAIVER stamped on it, go to the NSCA website, print off the NSCA Membership application form and the Adult Year Long Waiver, fill them in and send them, along with a cheque for $5.00, to the address listed on the application form. The NSCA membership year runs from April 1 to March 31.

Please note: Witnesses signing on the NSCA waiver forms must see you sign the form.

The NSCA Minor Event Waiver
This waiver is needed for all those 18 years of age and younger who are attending an NSCA-sanctioned event in BC.
