Society Resources

The SCA Web site has several documents that are very useful to the autocrat.

The governing documents , also known as Corpora contain a section on events. Section 2 of Corpora outlines the definition of society events, requirements to participate, business requiring prior announcement, individual in charge of events, the duty to enforce requirements and the policy on religion.

If you haven't read the Seneschal's handbook, I recommend it as a good resource of information regarding the business end of the SCA. Although intended for Kingdom Seneschals, of particular interest to autocrats are the sections on Service to the Membership and Insurance and Autocrat-FAQs. It also covers such things as contracts, waivers, and pulling sanction from an event.

Chapter six of the new Chancellor of the Exchequer Officer’s Handbook covers the subject of event finances very thoroughly. Topics of interest include event budgeting, pricing, dealing with vendors, and cash receipt management. The appendix contains several event related forms - including, event budget report form, event report form, gate reconciliation forms and non-member surcharge submission form.

In addition to the documents above, the SCA official document archives the policies for armored combat, equestrian, siege engine, target archery and rapier activities.

Kingdom Resources

An Tir Kingdom Law has a section covering Crown, Coronet and general events. This is particularly relevant when autocratting Crown level events.

The An Tir Events Calendar is a great tool for getting information on scheduled events and can be useful when researching available weekends for a new event.

The An Tir Autocrats list is an online community/email list where you can tap into some of the kingdom's most experienced autocrats. It's a great place to ask questions, get feedback and keep up to date on the issues that might affect you or your event.

The An Tir forms library is where you can find the necessary forms to get on the kingdom calendar and to make your event official. Kingdom specific waiver forms are also available there.

Other Resources

Use caution when utilizing some of the non-An Tir specific information out on the web. Each kingdom, and indeed, each branch has their own way of putting on events, and you should check with someone in your area to make sure the information you are considering using fits in with the established, yet often unwritten, guidelines of your local branch.

Autocratting 101: A Comprehensive Guide for Planning SCA Events - Issue #113 of the Complete Anachronist is available from the SCA Marketplace.

Written approximately fifteen years ago, the Autocrat's Friend was An Tir's bible for managing events for many year. Currently in the process of being updated by the autocrat list community, it still has some great information, particularly the event checklists.
