We went up to Ursalmas last weekend for Olin's knighting. Left early on Saturday morning just before 6. It was uneventful, until we got off I-5 just after Northgate mall. It started hailing, then snowing. By the time we crossed I-405, it was snowing hard. Halfway to Monroe, there was about 3 inches of snow on the ground, and we saw someone climbing out from the window of their car, upside down in the ditch. Luckily there was a state police car which had just pulled up. We made it into Monroe without further mishap.

Olin had borrowed Frederick's Norse tent, which was opened up to allow people to enter in from the side, like a leanto. Folks came in to offer advice and comments to Olin at his vigil. Many delectable goodies were available from the members of the household to munch on. Around noon, all the folks who were Olin's witnesses had arrived. What we didn't know at the time was that our Baron and Baroness Titus and Kateline, had been involved in a fender-bender in the snow and wouldn't make it to the event. Luckily no one was injured. But Kateline was supposed to herald the elevation, and had the copy of the ceremony with her. When we realized that they wouldn't make it, it was decided to wing it.

So, Their Majesties Skapti and Asa called Olin into a court just before the opening of the tournament. Fiach was the herald, and he asked for Olin's witnesses. Ragnar, myself, Ulfred, Elfreda, Dak, Ataias, Tiernan, Thorin and Sven. Olin took the last name of Ulfredsson, following in the footsteps of Fiach and Dak.

After the knighting, I attended the Western Region Laurel meeting. Played harp with a young lady for about an hour or so. Did some videotaping of Olin fighting in the tournament, which went into the DVD Ulfbjorn made for Olin. I contributed some of my harp music for that as well.

In the evening, we went over to Dak's house in Renton for a kick-ass party. Had about 40 people there. Sven brought a knapsack full of videotapes, mostly from Crown Tournaments, some going back over 20 years. We watched some really good matches and some really silly ones. I think some of these were from when Torgul was on the throne. He would make up sometimes bizarre scenarios for tournaments and wars. They were always entertaining, at least.

We stayed with Demetria and Bruce at a motel nearby, and in the morning, got breakfast and made a stop at Ikea before heading back to Portland.
