The canton is in discussions with the College of Heralds as of April 2009 to clear a conflict of the name Kaldor. Our original submission was Canton of Kaldor, which is a Lowland Scots place name that translates approximately to "wood by the water" which seemed appropriate for Columbia County with its Douglas fir forests in the West and the mighty Columbia River to the East. The College returned our name for an aural conflict with the Castle of Cawdor which is mentioned in Shakespeare's Macbeth. They suggested adding a modifier to the original name to clear its aural conflict and currently six modifiers are under discussion on the canton yahoo group. We should have a new submission ready for the College by May 2009 and will post here afterward. Please feel free to visit our yahoo group to see the list of potential modifiers.
At the last interest meeting the group decided on the arms below incorporating both the pantheon and knot into the heraldry. The device will go into submission with the name in July or August once the necessary petitions are signed.

After we decide on our name modification and redraw the device for submission, we can resubmit our name and device to the College of Heralds. As long as our name and device are in submission (that means with the College of Heralds) we can continue working toward full branch status while it is being processed.
