RECONSTRUCTED LEATHER ROMAN MARCHING TENT
Photographed April 1998, at Marching Through Time encampment.  Picture graciously forwarded from Legio XX.  The tent is owned by Ed Safford (not shown), who bought the leather and did most of the construction.  The roof and near end are goatskin, and the far end is cow leather.  All seams are hand stitched with linen thread, and are done the same way as on the original examples, so that rain runs off easily.  To the left are some palisade stakes for fortifying the camp, the Legio XX vexillum (banner)
